Biography:
Freeman Cheung is the regional executive responsible for AECOM’s environmental management practice in Hong Kong and Japan, serving both public and private sector clients for more than 35 years. Freeman co-founded the Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental Professionals in 2015 and was elected President in 2022.
Freeman specializes in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for large scale infrastructure projects, enhancing environmental performance and implementing innovative climate resilience and nature-positive solutions to combat climate change. He has led many environmental management programmes for Environmental Protection Department, including the first Green House Gas Emission Control Study and regional air quality improvement studies. Currently, he is leading several development projects in the Northern Metropolis, including the San Tin Technopole, the Sam Po Shue Wetland Conservation Park and the Northern Metropolis Highways.
Freeman also lectures on environmental science and impact assessment at leading local universities and serves on the Advisory Committee on Environmental Science for Chinese University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong Kong, School of Energy and Environment Advisory Committee. He was appointed Member of the Environmental Impact Assessment Appeal Board Panel since April 2022.
